Super Eagles defender, Kenneth Omeruo has revealed that the team focus is a winning start in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Congo on Saturday in Calabar. Omeruo, in an interview with goal.com said the players target was a win.
“We all know why we are here. We are prepared for the game and anxious to win,” Omeruo said.
“It’s team work and everyone is focused on ensuring we earn a remarkable start to our title defence against Congo on Saturday. We will go all out for victory.”
According to him, Stephen keshi deserves a contract extension saying, “He is a great coach. He has vision and great encouragement for players. He is a good adviser and wonderful coach that every player – at home and abroad loves to play under him.
“If he is not here, I won’t be. He deserves to remain the coach of the team. He has brought us this far and I will love him to stay put as head coach for continuity,” he said.
He insists the Super Eagles will not be distracted by the ongoing leadership crisis rocking the country’s football as their attention will be on recording a bright start to their continental campaign.
“Well we are all aware of the [administrative] crisis, but are all focused on playing to make Nigerians proud. We lack no support and so we won’t bother ourselves with such matters as long it doesn’t affect us,” he further told Goal.
“We have the usual support of the Nigeria Football Federation and Nigerians. So our attention is on defending our Nations Cup title and that starts against Congo ,” the former Sunshine Stars concluded.
