Friendly: Nigeria To Play Cameroon & Congo

Nigeria are to play two friendly matches against Cameroon and Congo next month in Belgium, the president of the country's football association said on Monday.

"I can confirm that we will play against Congo on October 8 in Antwerp and against Cameroon on October 11 in Brussels," Amaju Pinnick said on Nigeria's Channels television.

Congo denied Nigeria a spot at the Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea earlier this year by finishing second in the qualifying group behind South Africa.

Super Falcons will resume camping today in preparation for the forthcoming All Africa Games (AAG) in Congo Brazavile.

The team, which failed to progress to the next qualifying stage of the Rio Olympic Games after losing 3-2 on aggregate to Equatorial Guinea, will regroup after the dismal outing in Bata.

The loss in Bata meant Nigeria failed once again to participate in the women football event of the Olympic Games, having missed in the 2012 Games in London.

Nigeria women coach Christopher Danjuma has picked 35 players for the Super Falcons’ camping exercise for the 11th All African Games billed for Congo Brazzaville.

Onome Ebi, Francisca Ordega, Halimat Ayinde, Esther Sunday and Josephine Chukwunonye have been recalled to the Nigeria side that failed to beat the Nzalang Nacional to the Rio 2016 Olympics female football event ticket.

While Asisat Oshoala has been dropped from the squad selected by acting coach Danjuma, as well as Courtney Dike, Nasarawa Amazon’s Mariam Ibrahim and Kemi Fatuyesi of Confluence Queens have been handed a surprise call-up.

Nigeria qualified for the African U23 Championship in Senegal after holding Congo to a goalless draw on Sunday, winning 2-1 on aggregate.

The Dream Team VI held their ground in Pointe Noire against the Junior Red Devils who needed only a goal to sail through.

But Samson Siasia’s boys denied the hosts who were led by veteran Claude Leroy and ran away without conceding a goal.

Stadium officials in Pointe Noire, Congo, disrupted the Nigeria U23 team’s training on the main pitch on Saturday ahead of Sunday’s African U23 Championship final qualifier, Goal has learnt.

A source within the nigeria camp disclosed that stadium officials stopped the team from concluding its mandatory one hour warm up.

The Dream Team VI was forced to abandon its training and return to the hotel ahead of schedule as officials decided not to argue with the hosts.

Le Roy Not Worried About Nigeria Ahead Of Olympic Qualifier Clash

Head coach of Congo’s U23 team, Claude Le Roy is not worried about ‘powerful’ Nigeria U23 side ahead of Sunday’s 2016 Olympic qualifier in Pointe-Noire.

Nigeria won the first leg 2-1 at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt on July 19 and will progress to the final round of qualifying if they avoid defeat at the Stade Municipal, Pointe-Noire.

A 1-0 win for Congo’s U23 side will however be enough to put the 1996 Olympic champions to the sword but Le Roy reckons the fixture will be anything but straight forward.

Newcastle are poised to complete the £8.5million signing of Anderlecht defender Chancel Mbemba,  but doubts remain about the player's age. The Magpies will sign the Congolese international on the understanding he is 20 years old. However, it has long since been reported that Mbemba has four birthdays, ranging from 1988 to 1995.

Mbemba once stated in an interview that he believed his birthday was around 1990, which would make him 25. The centre back began his career in his homeland, where his date of birth was registered as August 8, 1988. By the time he came to sign for Anderlecht in 2012, his new birthday was stated as August 8, 1995.

Junior Ajayi is hoping for a repeat of his heroics against Congo’s U23 on Sunday when the Dream Team VI continue their quest to reach the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

The Dream team won the first leg 2-1 in Port Harcourt on July 19 but Ajayi who scored both goals on the day says it was not a good result.

U-23 Eagles Must Work Hard To Win In Congo - Seyi Akinwunmi

Nigeria Football Federation’s first vice chairman, Bar. Seyi Akinwunmi has told Complete Sports that the National U-23 Eagles must work hard to ensure they win the return leg match of the 2016 Olympic Games qualifier against Congo in Point Noire in less than two weeks’ time.

Reacting to the first leg match played in Port Harcourt at the weekend which saw the Nigerians led by Coach Samson Siasia winning with a slim 2-1 result, said the players need to work harder ahead of the second leg while calling on the coaches to plan very well for the away game.

NFF Blasts Claude Leroy

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has reacted with “shock and disappointment” to claims by Claude Leroy that Congo’s U23s were badly treated prior to Sunday’s Olympic qualifying game with Nigeria in Port Harcourt.

The veteran French trainer was upset with what he termed “poor treatment” to his team before his side fell 1-2 to the Dream Team VI at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.

“Nigeria is a big country and I do not think it is necessary to make us wait for more than one hour at the Airport.
