Senegal 1-1 Nigeria: Teranga Lioness Holds Super Falcons In Dakar

Nigeria's Super Falcons were held by their Senegalese counterparts in Friday's Africa Women's Cup of Nations qualifying game in Dakar.

Interim Nigeria head coach Florence Omagbemi listed Arsenal forward Asisat Oshoala and Desire Oparanozie from the start, and it was expected that the Falcons, favourites going into the game, would come away with a win.

The African champions had loads of scoring chances but failed to make them count until late in the first half.

Perpetua Nkwocha To Take Over Super Falcons Coaching Job

Coach of Clemensnäs IF from Swedish Women's Football Division 2, Perpetua Nkwocha who is a former Nigerian international has been rumoured to take over the coaching job of the Super Falcons. 

Former international Perpetua Nkwocha will soon be named coach of Nigeria women’s team, the Super Falcons, to be assisted by another ex-international Ann Chiejine.

One of Nigeria's all-time greats, Nkwocha has bagged her coaching badges at her base of Sweden, while former international goalkeeper Chiejine has been assistant coach at Nigeria’s U17 women’s team, the Flamingoes.

FIFA Women's World Ranking: Nigeria Move To 37th As USA Maintains 1st Position

The Super Falcons of Nigeria moved up a place to 37th in the latest Women Fifa world ranking. Despite a poor showing in 2015 the Falcons still managed to move up.

The reigning African champions earlier dropped nine places in September to 38th position due to their exit from  the preliminary rounds of the 2015 Fifa Women's World Cup in Canada.

Falcons were unsuccessful in a second successive attempt to secure an Olympics ticket and to make matters worse failed to get a medal at the 2015 All African Games in Brazzaville, Congo.

Nigeria: Super Falcon Left-Back Happy With Successful Surgery

Former U-20 captain and Super Falcons left back Gloria Ofoegbu has had a successful injury after being helped by an unnamed Nigerian came to her aid. According to reports she picked up the injury while on international duty. Pleas were made to the NFF to help her foot the bill but it all fell on deaf hears. Its clear that her club Rivers Angels can't foot the bill as we all know the state of football clubs in Nigeria.

The left back is glad to have had a successful surgery in Lagos and she's grateful to the good samaritan that paid the bill. One will be tempted to ask the administrative department about how long heroes will be abandoned in this country?

Super Falcons left back, Gloria Ofoegbu has said she is keenly looking forward to returning to active football in the very shortest time.

FIFA Ranking: Super Falcons Fall Nine Places Down

African champions Nigeria’s Super Falcons have suffered the biggest slide in the world after they dropped nine places to be ranked 38th in the latest FIFA ratings. And this was despite playing the most matches (seven) in September.

The Falcons, under caretaker coach Chris Danjuma, failed to qualify for next year’s Olympics in Rio after they were eliminated by Equatorial Guinea.

They also failed to medal at the recent All Africa Games after losses to Cameroon and Cote d’Ivoire.

Nigeria women’s team’s invincibility on the African continent is fading away fast as they lost to Côte d'Ivoire in the bronze medal match in the All Africa Games football event on Thursday.

The Falcons lost 2-1 to return home empty handed.

The Ivorians thereby completed a double over the coach Christopher Danjuma-led team at the All Africa Games having lost the group game 2-1.

Super Falcons Resume Camping Today Ahead Of All African Games

Super Falcons will resume camping today in preparation for the forthcoming All Africa Games (AAG) in Congo Brazavile.

The team, which failed to progress to the next qualifying stage of the Rio Olympic Games after losing 3-2 on aggregate to Equatorial Guinea, will regroup after the dismal outing in Bata.

The loss in Bata meant Nigeria failed once again to participate in the women football event of the Olympic Games, having missed in the 2012 Games in London.

Nigeria senior women team have crashed out of the Rio 2016 Olympics qualifiers after a disappointing 2-1 defeat in extra-time against Equatorial Guinea on Sunday.

It is the second time in a row Nigeria will miss out on the event after they lost via a penalty lottery to Cameroon during London 2012 Olympic qualifying series.

The reigning African Champions suffered a 3-2 aggregate loss against the two-time African Women Championship winners in Bata, despite holding a 1-0 lead in the first half at the Estadio de Bata.

Equatorial Guinea Won't Stop Us - Evelyn Nwabuoku

Super Falcons stars Evelyn Nwabuoku and Cecilia Nku are confident Nigeria will beat Equatorial Guinea in their return leg 2016 Olympic Games qualifier in Bata, Equatorial Guinea on Sunday.

The Falcons were held to a 1-1 draw by Nzalang Nacional at the Abuja Stadium a fortnight ago, and the African champions are in   a must-win situation in Bata. However, the Falcons, who represented Africa at the Sydney 2000, Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, will qualify for the Olympics with a higher scoring draw.

Nigeria will miss the services of Liverpool striker Asisat Oshoala (who is injured),   Belarus-based Onome Ebi and United States-based Josephine Chukwunonye.

Injury Rules Asisat Oshoala Out For Eight Weeks

Nigerian female striker Asisat Oshoala has been ruled out for at least eight weeks to a knee injury. The reigning African queen was replaced in the 53rd minute in Liverpool Ladies' 2 - 1 loss to Notts County last Saturday after she copped a knee injury.

Three Liverpool Ladies players, including England midfielder Fara Williams, are set to miss the majority of the club's remaining games this season after picking up injuries.

The former Rivers Angels goal poacher joined the Reds in January and has scored three goals in her seven English Women Super League appearances for the Matt Beard's ladies.

SUPER FALCONS: FIFA Fines Ugo Njoku 641,349.27 Naira For Elbowing Australian Player

Nigeria defender Ugo Njoku has been suspended for three matches and fined 641,349.27 Naira by Fifa after being found guilty of elbowing Australia striker Sam Kerr in their last match. The substitute escaped the referee's sanction for the action in the second half but has now been punished after a post-match video assessment.

The Australian striker suffered a broken jaw from the incident. In a statement issued by Fifa on Monday morning, it said the decision became necessary after asserting the Nigerian's poor challenge in the game which the Super Falcons lost 2-0 on Friday.

"The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has reached a decision in the case related to Ugo Njoku of Nigeria following an incident that occurred during the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015 match between Australia and Nigeria played on 12 June 2015," the statement reads.

RWANDA 1 NIGERIA 4: Falcons Humiliate Rwanda In Gisenyi

Super Falcons defeated Rwanda 4-1 in the first leg second round of African Women Championship qualifiers played in Gisenyi on Sunday afternoon.

The Nigerian ladies started brightly by dominating proceedings but threw away many scoring chances. After minutes of dominance, Asisat Oshoala opened scoring for the Falcons in the 37th minute with a volley inside the box.

Three minutes later, Desire Oparanozie who was the tormentor -in -chief of the hosts set up Asisat to put Super Falcons two goals up. It should have been more before interval but poor shooting denied the visitors a more comfortable lead.

Nigeria Super Falcons on tuesday defeated their Cameroonian counterpart one goal to nil in an international friendly match played inside the FIFA goal project National Stadium package B Abuja

Asisat Oshoala got the only goal for Falcons in the 85th minute to put smiles in the faces of supporters who filled the FIFA goal project pitch to support the Super Falcons.

“I am very happy to score the only goal for my team,the match was very tough but we are happy we got victory at last” an elated Oshoala said .

The Rivers Angels star said the Cameroonian’s would give them a good game and would want to even beat the Falcons but assured that they would meet their Waterloo. She said the game is not a grudge match but that the Super Falcons would surely want to retaliate the loss to Cameroon in the 2012 African Women Championship.
