Depay Makes Request For United's Number 7 Shirt

Memphis Depay has formally requested the Manchester United number 7 shirt, according to the Mail.
With Angel Di Maria leaving for PSG, the club’s most historic number is now vacant and up for grabs, and will surely be assigned before the start of the season.

Depay wore the number 9 shirt in pre-season, but with the number 7 now vacant, he fancies the challenge.

And newcomer Depay looks like the perfect fit, both in terms of playing style and character. The number 7 shirt has gained its iconic status due not only to the great players who have worn it, but the characters: George Best, Eric Cantona, David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo.

It’s lost some of its lustre of late due to the ignominy with which it was treated by Michael Owen and latterly Di Maria, and now Depay looks like he could be the man to restore the shirt’s cachet.
