President Buhari To Receive Nigeria's Team To Special Olympics - Tobi Soniyi

President Muhammadu Buhari said monday in Abuja that he w‎ould receive members of the Team Nigeria that won medals at the just concluded ‎Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles, United States.

A statement issued by the president's Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr Garba Shehu, said Buhari would receive ‎members of the team at the Presidential Villa to celebrate their brilliant outings at the Games in Los Angeles.

The president commended the team for their diligence, dedication and wonderful performance at the games in which they won a total of 71 medals, including 34 gold.


Buhari applauded the special athletes' inspiring victories in Los Angeles which, "he believes, epitomise the true Nigerian spirit and personal conviction that whatever challenges we face as a nation, we can overcome them through dedication, hard work and perseverance,  and rise to the highest possible levels of accomplishment," the statement added.

The president told the athletes that the Federal Government and  all Nigerians were very proud of their exhilarating and dominant performance at the Special Olympics in which they won medals in  all featured  events.

"The President looks forward to receiving members of the team at the Presidential Villa to celebrate their brilliant victories in Los Angeles," the statement concluded.

On arrival from the Special Olympic World Games in Los Angeles, USA last week, Team Nigeria athletes and officials were given a rousing celebration at a reception held in their honour at the Vigeo Holdings headquarters on Osborne Road, Ikoyi, Lagos.

Special Olympics Nigeria rolled out red carpet to welcome the athletes with intellectual disabilities who won a total of 71 medals in the seven Olympic-type sport the country participated in.

Sponsors and partners of SONigeria who supported the team’s preparations and participation at the World Games were honoured for helping the kids to realize their potentials despite their inadequacies.
