Jose Mourinho’s new book hits the shelves next week, at perhaps the most inauspicious timing in the history of publishing.
With Chelsea mired in a never-ending crisis, Mourinho’s book, promising to provide insight into his ‘footballing philosophy and wisdom’ will go on general sale.
And judging by the first leaked excepts, the Portuguese will be playing a familiar tune, sounding off about referees in paranoid rants.
Mourinho has made complaining about refs his alma mater in his second Chelsea stint, a shtick that reached its nadir last season when he talked of a nefarious ‘campaign’ against his club.
He’s maintained that line this season despite the clear evidence to the contrary, and his new book he reveals that he felt exactly the same way about Italian refs during his time at Inter.
‘Every time we played in the Champions League, we had problems in Serie A afterwards. I remember a defeat at Roma notably, but I always had the feeling that refs made a lot of mistakes against Inter.
In the end, I started to do 10 v 11 training sessions to prepare for having one less player on the pitch, but I forgot to do 9 v 11. Against Sampdori, two of our players were sent off.’
