Manchester City’s injury woes have increased with the news that David Silva is facing a month on the sidelines, Goal can confirm.
The 29-year-old damaged ankle ligaments during Spain's Euro 2016 qualifying victory over Luxembourg on Friday night.
Silva failed to shake off an injury following a challenge from Lars Krogh Gerson and was withdrawn after just 11 minutes of the 4-0 win, a victory which ensured the reigning European champions a place at next summer’s finals in France.
A statement from the Spanish Football Association confirmed on Friday that Silva would miss Monday’s final qualifier against Ukraine, but Goal understands that following initial scans Manchester City have been informed that the extent of the damage is likely to rule the playmaker out for up to a month.
The Premier League leaders were rocked on Thursday at the news that Sergio Aguero suffered a hamstring injury, one that left him in tears according to his club and international team-mate Nicolas Otamendi, during Argentina’s 2-0 defeat against Ecuador.
The Argentina Football Association confirmed on Friday that Aguero suffered a grade two tear that could keep him out for up to six weeks, meaning both he and Silva are liable to miss the upcoming Manchester derby and potentially the crucial Champions League double header against Sevilla.
