FRAUD!!! Ghana's World Cup Commitee In $90,000 Food Inflation Mess

It’s another round of appalling headlines for the Ghanaian FA this Friday. On the same day as the Black Stars are said to have axed coach Kwesi Appiah following the country’s appalling showing at the World Cup this summer, fresh allegations of corruption have been levelled at officials over what happened in Brazil this summer.

This week Ghana have been holding hearings into the fiasco at the World Cup, and the Chief Executive Officer of Ambar Quality Foods Limited, Mrs. Gertrude Quashigah, has accused the World Cup Committee of inflating costs of food for the tournament.

Whilst the original budget was set for Gh¢34 for three square meals a day for all 600 official supporters who travelled to South America, when the actual figures were reported after the event the cost of food had strangely metamorphosed into US$35.

Overall $90,000 has gone missing as a result.

According to Gertrude Quashigah:

It’s too high because that [currency] had to be transferred to the local currency there and there is nowhere in the world you can go and purchase [foodstuff] in that quantity in dollars. The figures are not realistic, not at all.

As for those accused of fiddling the books, the Chairman of the Grounds, Events and Logistics sub-committee, Horace Ankrah, failed to tell the commision how figures quoted in the local currency by caterers who cooked for the 600 supporters flown to Brazil, changed into US dollars when the final decision was made on their payments.
