Real Madrid Stars Under Lock & Key

Florentino Pérez's contract business continues apace. The latest to sign on the dotted line is Raphaël Varane, following new deals in the summer for Nacho (until 2021), Luka Modric (2018) and Karim Benzema (2019).

The vast majority of the Real Madrid squad have committed their long-term futures to the club. In fact, only three current first-team players at the Bernabéu are not under lock and key for the long run: Sami Khedira, Pepe and Álvaro Arbeloa.

Khedira had a foot out of the door during the summer after failing to agree a new contract with the club. The German's deal expires on 30th June next year and he will be free to negotiate with other clubs from 1st January.

Pepe and Arbeloa are under contract until 2016 and it looks unlikely that they will be offered fresh terms, as both will be 33 when their current deals come to an end and the general feeling among the 'Los Blancos' hierarchy is that the pair's best days are behind them. The rest of the Real squad is tied down until at least June 2017, so it is safe to say that the Bernabéu club can look to the future without any trepidation.
