SAD!!! Ex Super Eagles Goalie Wilfred Agbonavbare Dies In Spain

Former Nigerian goalkeeper Wilfred Agbonavbare, has passed away in a hospital Spain. Agbonavbare died on Tuesday morning, announced his former club, Rayo Vallecano.

"The Rayo Vallecano family and fans are in mourning. Cancer has taken Wilfred away from us this morning," Rayo announced via their official Twitter account on Tuesday.


The former goalkeeper had been battling cancer and had spent his last days in a hospital in Alcala de Henares in Spain, according to Spanish newspaper, AS.

According to the Spanish newspaper's report, Agbonavbare had wished to see his three sons who currently live in Nigeria.

His former club, Rayo, had raised funds for the ex-Super Eagles goalkeeper to the amount of €21,106.90 (around N4.5 million) in a bid to help with his cancer treatment.

Agbonavbare played for Rayo Vallecano between 1990 and 1996 making more than 100 appearances for the Spanish club.

He was also a member of the Golden Generation of the Super Eagles in 1994.
