Bryan Oviedo secured a shock 1-0 victory for Everton against Manchester United in their Premier League clash at Old Trafford. Read more after the cut......
United dominated the first half with a deflected Wayne Rooney shot defeating Tim Howard, but rolling against the post. Ryan Giggs glanced a header wide, and there were chances for Danny Welbeck and Shinji Kagawa, but United lacked a ruthless edge.
Romelu Lukaku had Everton’s best chance, blasting the ball at David De Gea’s near post, a shot well saved by the United keeper.
In the second half, Everton dominated possession, and they went close when Gerard Deulofeu was slipped in by Lukaku, only to shoot straight at De Gea.
Danny Welbeck then headed against the crossbar at a corner after Patrice Evra brought a great save from Howard. United had penalty appeals turned down after fouls on Adnan Januzaj and Nemanja Vidic.
Then, just five minutes from time, Lukaku sent a ball to the back post, and Oviedo soundly punished United’s miserable performance with his goal. David Moyes and Manchester United look to be in serious trouble.
