Jose Mourinho Hits Back At Yaya Toure Over Lack Of Respect Claim

Jose Mourinho insisted he has never been disrespectful to Chelsea’s rivals as he responded to criticism from Manchester City star Yaya Toure on Friday.

Mourinho has clashed with City manager Manuel Pellegrini this season and Arsenal counterpart Arsene Wenger. That led Toure, in an interview with Marca earlier this week, to accuse the Portuguese coach of talking too much and not showing his fellow managers and their teams enough respect.

Mourinho, however, insists that is not true and claims any comments he made on Arsenal and City prior to their Champions League matches this week were only made out of support.

Speaking ahead of his side’s trip to Aston Villa on Saturday, he said: "If supporting the teams from the country where I am and where I work, if this is lack of respect, okay.

"I don't think this is lack of respect. This is support.

"The same way I say Man City has three matches in hand and they are capable of winning all three matches to become top of the league, if that is lack of respect, he has a strange concept of lack of respect."

Mourinho maintains that City are title favourites, despite his side riding high at the top of the table.

Chelsea are nine points clear of City, but Pellegrini's side have three games in hand and a superior goal difference.

"You look at the table and if you have just the number of points, the table is fake, because before the number of points is the number of matches," he added.

"We could have 30 points more than them and 10 matches more. It means nothing.

"When everybody has the same number of matches - I don't know when this is going to happen, maybe in the last week of competition - is when the table is real."
