Defending champion Rafa Nadal showed flashes of brilliance as he brushed Tomas Berdych aside 6-4 6-2 to reach the Madrid Masters semi-finals.
Nadal was moving around the clay with ease and quickly established an advantage in the second set when he thrashed a marvellous forehand down the line for a 2-1 lead.
That shot seemingly ended Berdych’s resistance as the Spaniard tore through the remaining games to wrap up victory in one hour and 27 minutes.
