Former Nigeria international, Kadiri Ikhana, MON, has voiced his support for the 30-man provisional Super Eagles list released Tuesday by manager Stephen Keshi for preparation towards the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals in Brazil next month.
Ikhana, winner of the 1980 Africa Cup of Nations with then Green Eagles, reckons that the players listed by Keshi are the best at the moment, expressing strong believe that the team will do well at the World Cup.
"I've seen the list of players invited, I must say it’s a good one, what is required of the technical crew for now is for them to settle down and do the work", starts Ikhana who was named Africa's Coach of the Year in 2003 after leading Enyimba to CAF Champions League triumph, the first by any Nigerian club.
"Yes, they need to settle down, focus on the task at hand and pick the best 23 players out of the 30 so as to give us a strong team for the World Cup.
"I believe they will do a good job and that the team will do well in Brazil ", the former Kano Pillars gaffer added.
On the inclusion of some players seen by many as having not done pretty well for their clubs to deserve mentions on the provisional 30-man list, Ikhana said that couldn't be true as the coaches must have monitored the players well before calling them up.
"I don't think the coaches made any mistake in the players they listed. I'm sure they must have been monitoring the players.
"There are qualities they saw in the players they invited which many people did not see. For sure, they want to do a good job and I believe they will present a strong team for the World Cup.
"Certainly, the coaching crew did not make any mistake at all in their choice of players for the assignment."
