AL AHLY: We Are Not In Talks With Jorvan Vieira

Al Ahly have denied they are in talks with Portuguese coach Jorvan Vieira to lead the team next season. Egyptian reports suggest that Al Ahly will release Fathy Mabrouk at the end of this season and will opt to bring in a foreign coach.

Al Ahly official Alaa Abdel Sadek admitted that they were in discussion with Vieira but said the talks fell through and the Red Devils have shelved any form of negotiations with the Portuguese since May.

"We started negotiations with Vieira in May to lead the team after (Juan Carlos) Garrido left but we did not reach an agreement. Since then we stopped negotiations with him and signed Fathy Mabrouk," Abdel Sadek said.

"Since Mabrouk took charge the team has been doing well in both the league and in the Caf Confederation Cup. So I can't find any logical reason to axe him. Mabrouk will stay with us for next season. This is our decision."

The Al Ahly trainer chipped in that he held talks with the club president, Mahmoud Taher, who assured him that there are no plans to break off the deal with him.

"Taher assured me that I will stay for next season. I took charge when the atmosphere was not good and now things are fine. I think I deserve a chance to lead the team next season," Mabrouk said.

Mabrouk took charge of Al Ahly in May after Garrido failed to lead the team into the group stage of the Caf Champions League.
