NIGERIA: Sunday Oliseh Set To Resume Next Week

Super Eagles new coach Sunday Oliseh is expected to resume work with the national team next week when he arrives in the country, a top source in the Nigerian Football Federation has told completesportsnigeria.

Oliseh will meet with his backroom staff before the squad list for the home-based players is released for the AFCON 2017 qualifier against Tanzania in Dar-es-Salaam.

His first assignment will be away to Tanzania in a 2017 AFCON qualifier in September. The Eagles are currently second in their group behind Egypt.

Meanwhile, after spending five years away from the Super Eagles, Anzhi Makhachkala midfielder Lukman Haruna is poised to be recalled by Oliseh, completesportsnigeria.com has exclusively gathered.

The Dynamo Kiev loanee, who has been overlooked by past coaches after featuring at the 2010 World Cup, is one of the new players Oliseh is banking on to win his first game against Tanzania in Dar-es-Salaam .

Oliseh is also pondering who to play in the attacking midfield role between Haruna and AS Trencin’s Rabiu Ibrahim, a top source in the Nigerian Football Federation has also told completesportsnigeria.com.

Also expected to earn his first call-up is Russia-based FC UFA forward Sylvester Igboun, who scored eight goals for FC Midtjylland last term in the Danish Super Lig.

“Sunny wants fresh legs that will play with hunger for the national team and also get results, and I think Lukman and Igboun are being considered for the game,” the well placed source added.

“Players such as John Ogu, Anderson Esiti and the prominent members are also expected to feature in his list.”
