WORLD CUP: Injury Ends Micheal Babatunde's Brazil 2014 Dream

SUPER Eagles midfielder Michael Babatunde has been ruled out of the World Cup following an injury he sustained in Nigeria’s last group game against Argentina on Wednesday. Team coach Stephen Keshi broke the depressing news at the post-match conference.

“Babatunde’s injury is serious,” Keshi said regretfully. “He fractured his hand and I was told that he may require surgery. It’s not a good at all. I think Babatunde is out of the World. Cup.”

Babatunde was one of Keshi’s inclusion in Nigeria’s World Cup. The FC Volyn Lutsk of Ukraine player however confounded his doubters with a superb performance when Keshi played him instead of Victor Moses in Nigeria’s 1-0 win over Bosnia Hezergovina. Not surprisingly, he kept his starting place against Argentina until the unfortunate injury.

Moses looks like the apparent choice to return to the first team for Nigeria’s next game but It is not certain. When Babatunde was substituted against Bosnia. Herzegovina, Keshi did not call on Moses, preferring to use Ejike Ozoenyi instead.
