TURKISH SUPER CUP: Nigeria's Emmanuel Emmenike Lifts Trophy With Fenerbache

Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Emenike was unable to achieve his target of scoring in the fierce Istanbul derby against Galatasary on Monday night but that nonetheless, the Nigeria forward is happy with his club’s 3-2 victory in the Turkish Super Cup. Emenike was yellow carded in the 58th minute of what many concluded was a derby below-par and even missed a glorious opportunity to seal victory for his team late in the second half.

After failing to break the deadlock, the Super Cup which serves as the curtain raiser for Turkish Super Lig spilled into extra time and then into penalty kicks in which Emenike was not amongst the takers.

Despite missing two of their kicks, Fenerbahce still emerged victorious after the trio of Dirk Kuyt, Raul Meriles and Michal Kalec converted their kicks while Galatasary could only convert two of their five kicks.

The Turkish FA on purpose took the Super Cup this term to the western province of Manisa; home to the Soma district, which witnessed the deadliest mining disaster in Turkish history in May causing the deaths of 301 people.

Profit from ticket sales for Monday’s match will go to charity for the victims' families.
