Cristiano Ronaldo has been voted World Player of the Year by the prestigious magazine World Soccer, amassing 1.075 points in the voting, decided by journalists throughout the world, in a similar vein to the way the Ballon D’Or used to be in its former guise.
In an interesting mirroring of the Ballon D’Or shortlist, Messi and Ribery came 2nd and 3rd respectively in World Soccer’s vote, which is the formation many believe that the Ballon D’Or will take when announced by FIFA next month.
Ronaldo will take some degree of pride in winning this, but it will be scant consolation if he doesn’t land the Holy Grail he so covets….
