FIFA U20 WOMEN'S WORLD CUP 2014: Nigeria Trash South Africa 6-0

Nigeria have moved a big step closer to the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup after they spanked visiting South Africa 6-0 in Abuja on Saturday.

The Falconets simply outclassed their South African counterparts that the return leg match in South Africa next weekend will be a mere formality.

Hosts Nigeria fired early warning they mean business as they scored twice within five minutes.

Asisat Lamina opened scoring after three minutes off a pullout by Grace Winifred that ripped open the South African defence.

Halimatu Ibrahim then doubled the home team's lead on five minutes off another rampant attack.

Somehow the visitors weathered the storm with the smallish, but skilful Koketso Mamabolo impressive in midfield.

Nigeria stepped up their game thereafter and in the 26th minute, Yetunde Adeboyajo powered home a Winifred corner past skipper and goalkeeper Kaylin Swart.

Swart will make a fine save on 33 minutes from a goal-bound shot by Nigeria skipper Patience Okaeme.

Falconets increased their tally after 51 minutes through the outstanding Winifred.

Goalkeeper Swart will make two big saves soon after as Nigeria continued to pile on the pressure.

But she was helpless in the 70th minute when substitute Uchechi Sunday rounded her up for the fifth goal.

Halimatu Ayinde completed the rout on 87 minutes after she combined well with Uchechi.

The overall winners of this qualifier will advance to the 2014 U20 World Cup in Canada in August.
