JOSE MOURINHO: Lionel Messi Doesn`t Need World Cup Trophy To Be Great

José Mourinho discussed Leo Messi's claim to greatness during an interview with Yahoo Eurosport, for whom he has just signed as Global Football Ambassador.

The Portuguese coach claimed that the Barça forward doesn't need to win the World Cup to be considered one of the greats.

Nevertheless, the former Real Madrid coach referred to other legends including Maradona, the Brazilian Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane to explain why Messi and his fellow superstar Cristiano Ronaldo continue to be judged by their failure to taste World Cup glory.

"He [Messi] is great, he is great. I don't think he needs to win with Argentina to be great. Ronaldo is great; I don't think he needs to be world champion with Portugal to be great. But - and there is always a but - Maradona did it, and Zidane did it, and Ronaldo Nazário and Rivaldo did it. Many of the big guys did it, so everybody is waiting for them to do it", Mourinho stated.
