Jerome Boateng Joins Jay Z’s ‘Roc Nation Sports’ Label

Speaking to Welt am Sonntag, Jerome Boateng yesterday confirmed that he had become the first footballer to join Jay Z’s ‘Roc Nation Sports’ label.

A fan of rap since he was a child, the 26-year-old Bayern Munich defender celebrated the conclusion of the deal in Jay Z’s very own sports bar in Brooklyn – The “40/40 club” – before heading to Jay Z’s private villa in LA.

“I took my sister and my best friend,” said Boateng. “It was a great day with Jay Z. We could ask him anything.”

“We talked mostly about music and football. Jay Z knows about football and has watched numerous games.”

Jay Z already has several athletes at ‘Roc Nation Sports’ including the Boxer Andre Ward, the baseball player Erick Aybar and the basketball players James Young and Skylar Diggins.

Hoping to become an international brand under Jay Z’s wing, Boateng said: “America is a huge market. With Jay-Z and Roc Nation I have on there a lot. We want to see what is possible.”

After admitting that “99 Problems” is his favourite Jay Z song, Boateng told the rapper that he is also a big fan of Drake and L’il Wayne.

“I also told him quite frankly that I think other rappers like Drake or Lil Wayne are amazing,” said Boateng. “It was for him, fortunately, perfectly fine.”

World Cup winner Jerome Boateng is the first footballer and the first European to join the label.
