Manchester United In Cavani Bid Again

For probably the millionth time, Uruguayan international Edinson Cavani is once again being linked with a move to the Premier League on Monday morning.

The Guardian’s Jamie Jackson, who is roundly considered to be a reliable source of information, has reported that Manchester United are looking at 28-year-old Cavani as a possible replacement for Robin van Persie, who joined Fenerbahce on Sunday. It’s worth adding that the Sunday Star reported a similar story over the weekend.

Currently, Wayne Rooney and James Wilson are the only two strikers on Louis van Gaal’s books, and the feeling is that United will add to their attack ahead of the new season. The Guardian say Cavani is now “Louis van Gaal’s No1 choice”.

What makes this Cavani to England story somewhat different, is that United have someone PSG desperately want: Angel Di Maria.

On Sunday, in an interview with Le Parisien, PSG boss Laurent Blanc admitted he likes Di Maria “a lot”. Moreover, RMC Sport claimed that PSG had made a formal enquiry with Man United for the Argentine international, with United telling the big spending French giants that €65m (£47m) would be enough.

Cavani scored 18 goals in 30 matches for PSG in Ligue 1 last season, however many observers remain unconvinced by the South American striker, who often seems to go missing in the big games.

Below are some of the previous headlines linking Cavani with a move to Old Trafford down the years.
