James going to six finals (his overall Finals record is 2-4) is an amazing feat and should not be downplayed. This is something that James is well aware of, which is why he isn't worried about his legacy as he told the "Today" show's Matt Lauer.
Lauer: Have you begun to think about legacy, Lebron?
James: No, I really haven't. I think legacy will speak for itself. Who I am as a man and what I do off the floor defines my legacy more than what I do on the court. That's just how I've always thought about it but I don't really get caught up into it too much.
James is right.
After he retires there is no reason to solely base his legacy on his NBA career. James' impact on the state of Ohio, his hometown of Akron and the city of Cleveland is evident both from a financial standpoint and a motivational one. His presence on the Cavs not only gives hope to fans with championship aspirations but James also plays a large role in the community. His LeBron James Family Foundation has made a difference in the lives of families across Ohio and the country.
While James may not ever have the rings like some NBA Hall of Famers, his lasting legacy should honor him appropriately for everything he has accomplished both on and off the court.
