Chelsea's reject Romelu Lukaku scored his 6th EPL consecutive goal but the goal was cancelled out by Wesley Hoolahan's strike to deny the visitors full points.
A 40-year record was equalled and one held for a fortnight is now peering into view. Romelu Lukaku became the first Everton player to score in seven consecutive matches since Bob Latchford in 1975, six coming in the Premier League and Jamie Vardy’s 11 straight now becomes a relevant target.
Quite how Lukaku left East Anglia with just one remains a mystery after missing a glut of chances. And yet his manager, Roberto Martinez, will not mind because without him their defensive deficiencies would have meant a trip back to Merseyside with nothing.
So seven on the spin and Bertie Freeman’s ten-match run back in 1908 now in serious jeopardy. For the tape, the next three are against Leicester, Newcastle and Stoke. Evertonians know their history, and with Lukaku it’s enough to make their hearts go.
