Chinedu Obasi Impresses Stephen Keshi

Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi is impressed with the recent displays of winger, Chinedu Obasi at German club, Schalke 04.

Obasi scored one and made another as Schalke defeated Hertha 2-0 at the Veltins Arena on match day 28 of the Bundesliga. It was his second league goal in his last five league games for the club.

He opened the scoring in the 16th minute via a touch of brilliance. The former Lyn Oslo man latched on to a delightful cross field pass from Saed Kolašinaca and left two Hertha players in his wake before round goalkeeper, Rune Jarstein.

Obasi created some magic a minute after the break when his decisive defence-splitting pass freed Klass Jan Huntelaar who promptly slammed home to give the hosts a two goal cushion.

Keshi was impressed and revealed he has been closely monitoring the 27-year-old.

“Obasi is doing well in Germany. I have been watching him of late. I saw him play against Real Madrid in the (Uefa) Champions League (on March 18 when the Spaniards prevailed 3-1 at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu).

“He is a good player but not all good players go to the World Cup. All Nigerian players must continue to work hard because no one is assured of a place in my team right now,” he exclusively told supersport.com.

Obasi has been capped 18 times by Nigeria at senior level.

He also played for Nigeria at U20 and U23 levels.
