REAL MADRID: Cristiano Ronaldo Makes Presidential Pledge

"We're not going to falter. You can count on us". This was Cristiano Ronaldo's message to Florentino Pérez on Wednesday.

The Portuguese ace made this pledge shortly before the 'Los Blancos' chief presented Iker Casillas and Carlo Ancelotti with commemorative shirts in recognition of their recent milestones: the keeper's 500th league appearance and the coach's 100th competitive fixture at the helm of Real Madrid.
Florentino's latest visit to Valdebebas had a completely different feel and purpose to his 'man on a mission' act a fortnight ago.

When he made his presence felt after the derby, Pérez was looking to spark a response from the team as a storm was brewing, while this time round it was mainly a 'social call' to pay tribute to the club captain and manager. On this occasion, what's more, the supremo left satisfied that the desired reaction has taken place.

The exchange between Florentino and the talismanic forward happened out on the turf and didn't last long, though long enough for Cristiano to say his piece. It was the star who instigated the encounter, keen as he was to put the president's mind at ease and convince him that everyone is rowing in the same direction.

Ronaldo insisted that the squad are rallying behind Ancelotti, adding: "We're not going to let him down. We're going to be in the mix, fighting for the two trophies still within our reach".
CR7's eagerness to stand up and be counted stems from his awareness that he dropped the ball during the club's rough patch and failed to show the requisite leadership at the Calderón or against Deportivo.
