History of Nigeria in Fifa u-17 world cup, all you want to know

The Golden Eaglets conquered the world in the inaugural edition of the U17 World Cup staged in China. The Eaglets played Germany and defeated them 2-0 to lift the Trophy in 1985 scoring a total of 10 goals.
In Canada 1987, Nigeria got to a 2nd consecutive final against USSR, former Solviet Union. After playing 1-1 draw, USSR got the better of the Sebastian Broderick lead Eaglets in a penalty shoot out. Nigeria scored a total of 7 goals in the tournament. Read more after the cut.

After failing to get past Saudi Arabia in the quarter finals of Scotland 89 and missing out of the 1991 edition, Nigeria made their fourth appearance at the Fifa U17 World Cup, Japan 1993 count as they won their second title in third showing in the final. A noticable record was created when Nigeria beat Canada 8-0 during the opening match. The Final was a West African affair which saw Nigeria defeat Ghana 2-1 under coach Fanny Amun. A total of 20 goals were scored. Wilson Oruma, Kanu Nwankwo, Celestine Babayaro, Pascal Ojigwe were all part of the conquering 1993 team.
In 2001 under Coach Musa Abdulahi Nigeria got to the final in Trinad & Tobago but was weeped by France. The match ended 3-0 in favor of the French.
2007 was another year of destiny for Nigeria under the Late Yemi Tella who died days after the tournament. The tournament in South Korea unveiled talents such as Haruna Lukman, Chrisantus Macauley, Rabiu Ibrahim and Dele Ajiboye. Dele Ajiboye saved to penalties during the penalty shoot out with Spain in the final. The penalty ended 3-0 in favor of Nigeria. Full match score was 0-0. A total of 16 goals was scored in the competition.
Defending Champions, Nigeria got stunned by the Swiss – first timers at the global fiesta in the final played in Abuja. Despite the vociferous fans that trooped into the Abuja National Stadium to cheer the Golden Eaglets, the John Obuh managed team failed to make home advantage count. Not many expected Dany Ryser’s side to stop the hosts from lifting a record fourth title after the Nigerians came from three goals down to hold the Germans U17 to a 3-3 draw in Group A’s opening game. The team made a steady progress as the competition continued especially their comprehensive victory over hot-title favorites Spain in the semis. The Eaglets were coached by John Obuh in Nigeria 2009.
All three previous FIFA U-17 World Cup won by Nigeria were all won in Asia. With a record 23 goals scored before the final on Asian soil it might be another moment of victory for Nigeria.
