Cristiano Ronaldo has declared all-out Cold War on fooball’s governing body, and the despot at its helm, Sepp Blatter. The Real Madrid superstar with more goals than games has said enough is enough with what he perceives as a campaign designed to belittle him in favour of his arch-nemesis Lionel Messi, and has decided to boycott the gala awards ceremony in symolic protest, Spanish daily AS report today. Ronaldo’s long harboured feelings of mistrust towards FIFA, and these have surfaced over the last months with his salute celebration aimed at Blatter, as well as his po-faced Facebook statement decrying FIFA’s discourse around him.
By boycotting the ceremony, though, he makes official his stance and forthright belief that he’s being systematically and deliberately marginalised by FIFA, which is a huge accusation to make. Blatter recently commented that he intended to speak privately to Cristiano at the FIFA Gala. However, the player is not interested in meeting the FIFA president or in making the journey to Zurich, where he is certain to be among the final five contenders for the annual award.
