EMMANUEL BABAYARO: Edin Dzeko Not A Problem For Nigeria

Olympic Gold-winning player, Emmanuel Babayaro has cautioned against underrating the Super Eagles group opponents, Iran. Nigeria will play Iran June 16, in their first group F fixture at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, the first meeting of both sides at this level.

Babayaro who spoke on a sports program on radio, expressed his concerns about the tendency of Nigerians to overlook the opposition Iran could pose to Nigeria chances of bagging three points from that game.

The Ex-International was however optimistic of the team’s progress in the competition while also playing down any talk of Manchester City’s Striker, Edin Džeko troubling the Eagles’ defense line. “my fear is that we are quick to dismiss small teams like Iran as no threat.

But it’s them am worried about because we need to win our first two matches convincingly to bring down the pressure when we come up against Argentina.

Iran may not be a proficient side tactically but they know how to rise to the occasion in big games. About Džeko, i don’t think he’ll cause us much trouble, it’s the other guys i worry about. Remember in 1994, we thought it was going to be Maradona but he let the other guys do the scoring and he simply became provider.” he concluded.
