Former Super Eagles defender Austin Eguavoen has warned the Nigerian national side to be focused for the entire duration of their match with Argentina today.
The defender who was part of the Eagles side that made a FIFA World Cup debut for Nigeria in 1994 in the USA bared his mind on the Nigeria versus Argentina moments after The Elephants of Cote d’ Ivoire lost 2-1 to Greece, conceding the second goal in the 90th minute, a result which eliminated them from the World Cup.
“The Ivorians were splendid for most of the game but they lost concentration towards the end of the game,” Eguavoen remarked.
“The penalty that resulted in the Greece’s winner shouldn’t have been if the Ivorians had remained focused at the vital moments.
“The lesson here for the Super Eagles is that they must have concentration for 90 minutes, for 90 minutes and never think it’s over.
“It will be nice to see the Eagles in the Round of 16. We all wanted as much African teams in the knock out stages, but our boys must learn from the mistakes of Cote d’ Ivoire,” ‘Cerezo’ said on Tuesday night.
Aside Cote d’ Ivoire, Cameroon are also another African team already out of the 2014 World Cup after the first round.
