ROBIN VAN PERSIE: I Suffered Depression Last Season

Netherlands captain Robin van Persie has revealed the anguish he experienced last season owing to the amount of time he spent out injured.

The United forward spent three months on the sidelines last season after picking up a host of injuries.
Van Persie’s injuries restricted him to just 28 appearances last season.

Although the Dutchman spent a huge chunk of the season on the sidelines he still managed to notch 18 goals for the Red Devils. But despite scoring 18 times last season the former Arsenal man revealed that his injuries made him frustrated and that they affected his confidence.

Van Persie said: “Over the last few years I put down the best series of my career. I played 93 matches in the Premier League in a row. Most of them as a starter, some as sub. I never thought about injuries.

“But this season I had three, where I was out for at least a month every time. Sometimes I got despondent of it. It started with something small.

“I had a broken toe and because of that I started to walking different, which had consequences for the rest of my body.”

Van Persie will lead the line for Holland at the World Cup despite reports claiming that he could miss the tournament after coming off at half-time during Holland’s 2-0 victory over Wales last Tuesday.

The Holland captain rubbished the reports and claimed that he only came off as a precaution.
