Rafael Nadal confessed that he cried the day that Roger Federer won the French Open. "I got emotional. He deserved to win that tournament, after so many finals and semi-finals. He deserved to win all four Grand Slams," said Nadal in an interview published in 'L'Equipe'.
Back then, the Swiss star had reached one semi-final and three finals at Roland Garros, but lost all four of those to the Spaniard.
He finally lifted the French Open title in 2009, after Sweden's Robin Soderling knocked Nadal out on the Parisian clay courts, the Spaniard's only defeat in a tournament he has won eight times, a world record in any Grand Slam.
"I also cried when Spain won the World Cup in South Africa," added Nadal, who admitted he gets emotional quite easily and remembers that on that day four years ago, he was inside the stadium when Iniesta scored La Roja's winner over The Netherlands.
