WIKE, Jonathan to Sponsor 50 PDP Stakeholders In Rivers State To Brazil 2014 World Cup

Nigerian politicians will not seize to amaze us. Fifty party stakeholders going to Brazil to watch the super eagles from Rivers State alone which includes hotel, tickets, feeding, transport, allowance and other things. You could simply imagine that a minimum of 1million Naira will be on budget for each person and my plight is how this development will build sports in the country and why sponsoring this set of people to Brazil?

The Supervising Minister of Education, Chief Nyesom Wike, has vowed that the Peoples Democratic Party will displace the All Progressives Congress, APC, from the Rivers Government House come 2015.

Wike made this remark weekend while announcing the sponsorship of the 23 state PDP local government chairmen and other stakeholders of the party to Brazil to witness live, the ongoing FIFA World Cup. The minister also declared that the APC-led government in the state was comatose, adding that the PDP was only waiting for the appropriate time to mount the saddle of leadership.

He described the sponsorship of over 50 PDP stakeholders to Brazil as an initiative that would soon be copied by the APC in the state, just as he commended President Goodluck Jonathan for ensuring that the state PDP benefitted from such gesture.

He said, “You are not a government in Rivers State, but you are a government in Rivers State. I say so because by the special grace of God, the so-called government they say they have in Rivers State is a comatose government. It is a government that is dead and we will by the grace of God take over the reins of power in this state in 2015.

“It (sponsoring of local government party chairmen to Brazil) is a challenge to them. Don’t be surprise that by tomorrow morning, they will call their chairmen and tell them to travel. They will always emulate the standard we have set.

“We have to commend President Goodluck Jonathan for giving you this opportunity. For some of you, this may have been the first time you are leaving the shores of this country. It doesn’t come easy; it has to do with the man who has a large heart and that is why we say whatever it is, we will continue to give him (Jonathan) support”.

Wike, however, advised the PDP chairmen at the local government and other beneficiaries of the gesture to be good ambassadors of the party and Nigeria and support the Super Eagles to win.
He noted that sending them to Brazil was for them to relax, unwind and come back to Nigeria to prepare for a greater job for the party.

Wike said, “As you are going to Brazil, you are not going there to bring problem to this country. You have to be good ambassadors to Nigeria and good ambassadors of the Peoples Democratic Party.

“As chairmen of party, you work so hard for the past few years. I think it is high time you had some relaxation. When you go there (Brazil), support Nigeria to win. You should relax there because you will come back for more work.

“We are highly elated that it is happening at this time. It is also to allow them to have relaxation and unwind themselves because they have worked hard in the past few years and they are expected to work harder when they come back. There are more jobs to be done starting from July”.

Earlier, the State Chairman of the PDP, Mr. Felix Obuah, recalled that the chairmen of the party at the local government level had requested for sponsorship to travel to Brazil to watch the World Cup.

According to Obuah, “Remember that you once applied to the party that you wanted to be part and parcel of the World Cup and I told you that I will do everything humanly possible to see if I can sponsor one or two of you. I started making consultations with our leaders.

“It is on that premise that I have called this meeting today to give you a response to your request. I want to say to God be the glory that the man that we are all pleased with (Wike) has done it again.

“I want to assure you that our major financier (Wike) has willingly approved my request that the local government chairmen of our great party and some stakeholders should travel to Brazil to cheer Nigeria to victory”.

Responding to the gesture on behalf of the beneficiaries, leader of the local government party chairmen, Mr. Aaron Chukwuemeka, expressed appreciation to the leadership of the PDP for giving them the opportunity to be part of the soccer fiesta in Brazil.

He promised that they would not do anything to bring disrepute to the PDP and the country during their stay in Brazil, adding that they would continue to work for the victory of the party in 2015 by the time they return to the country.
