Golden Eaglets coach Emmanuel Amunike says his team will come good as the 2015 Caf Junior Championship progresses and has called on Nigerians to back the team ahead of their crucial Group A game with Zambia at the Stade Municipal in Niamey.
Nigeria will do battle with the Young Chipolopolo of Zambia on Saturday needing the maximum points to assure a safe passage into the semi finals and a place at the Fifa Under-17 World Cup in Chile.
The former FC Barcelona player is optimistic of a win against Zambia to ease his team’s passage to the semis admitting that there is room for improvement in the team.
“We are hopeful that in our last game against Zambia we will be able to consolidate our qualification,” he exclusively told supersport.com.
“The most important thing in this tournament is that we have seen the two groups, and nobody can easily say they have qualified but hopefully on Saturday we will qualify.
“But we also have to bring in the positives that we have so far gained in these two games and we will also go back and see what we have not done much and try to correct them so that tomorrow (Saturday) we will be in a better position to give a good account of ourselves,” he said.
Amunike also revealed that his main objective as the 2015 Caf Junior Championship is to steer the Golden Eaglets to qualify for the 2015 Fifa Under-17 World Cup in Chile.
“Our expectations is that we always want to win, but we also respect our opponents, we want to play our game and hopefully that should be good enough to see us past Zambia,”he stated
“Our objective coming to Niger is to qualify for Chile 2015 and I believe we will do so.”
Nigeria currently occupy pole position in Group A with four points from two games and are only ahead of Guinea on goal difference.
The Golden Eaglets will meet the Young Chipolopolo of Zambia at the Stade Municipal while Niger, who are already eliminated will face Guinea at the Stade Seyni Kountche.
Both games will be played simultaneously at 1630GMT
