Chelsea's Slump - 5 Talking Points With Oma Akatugba

Chelsea's recent downfall has been beyond expectation, maybe no one saw it coming. Various pundits predicted that the blues will win the league again and expected that they will only get stiff competition from Manchester City. It seems the tides have turned around, Man city is maintaining an 100% start something common with Mourinho while Chelsea has only 4 points from 5 matches conceding a minimum of 2 goals in all the matches they have played.

One will be right to say such things don't happen with the "special one" such bad record doesn't write itself into history with a "Mourinho". If you are sleeping its time to wake up because it seems all is changing for the blues though Jose insists that there is no pressure on him even though he admits now that the league might be good as gone with City having 11 points lead ahead of Chelsea, even Pellegrini never thought it will be this easy.

Oma who also tipped Chelsea for the league has taken his time to highlight the reasons for Chelsea's recent slump.

Terrible back four line up - Ivanovic has been terrible in defence coupled with him making silly mistakes and i think Aziplueta will soon replace him. Am surprised that Mourinho has still sticked to Ivanovic. Baba Rahman should be introduced and i think the Terry-Zouma combination has not geld. The back four has not been good.

Jose Mourinho's substitutions and Rouse - His subtitutions lately has been out of it and his various fights with several people including Mrs Benitez and Eva Canevaro has helped to distarct him from his basic responsibilities. The players have also been distracted by the Doctor's suspension. Against Crystal Palace Jose replaced Cesar with a Brazilian forward Kenedy while he has a Baba Rahman on the bench who he his a left back. He also replaced Mikel with a Kenedy that did not make any impact against Everton. This terrible subs have contributed to the downfall and i think Mourinho who focuses on taking the glory should take the blames now.

Chelsea's failure to sign main targets - The blues signed Begovic, Falcao - a big flop from Man u, Pedro from Barcelona, Baba Rahman from Augsburg but the failure to sign main targets Pogba and Stones has also been a problem. A player like Kevin De Bryune who was sold out by Mourinho and now back to the EPL and to title rivals is another major problem for a team like Chelsea which focuses on loaning out players.

Goals against - Chelsea has conceeded 12 goals in just 5 matches, worst history since 1971. Mourinho is arguably the best defensive manager in history and he certainly knows he needs to fix a defence that falls like a park of cards. The midfield exposes the defence. Despite the fact that Mourinho said he worked on the defence ahead of the Everton game it still did them no good. The midfield seems to have been terrible, the back four is a shame and the likes of Fabregas, Matic are off form.

Mourinho's 3rd season syndrome - If you follow Mourinho you will know that his 3rd season at every club where he has had a 3rd season, he finds it difficult to consolidate the previous succecss. It has happened before at Chelsea and at Real Madrid where he was fired in the 3rd year after a winless season.
