Chelsea’s 4-0 win over Maccabi Tel Aviv on Wednesday night in the Champions League came at a cost. Following the match, manager Jose Mourinho told reporters that both Pedro and Willian are out of Saturday’s clash with Arsenal at Stamford Bridge.
Pedro was injured in last weekend’s 3-1 defeat at Everton, and the Spaniard failed to participate in the win over the Israelis.
As for Willian, after he broke the deadlock for Chelsea in the 15th minute with a free-kick which evaded everybody, the Brazilian was hauled off after just 23 minutes with a muscle problem.
Mourinho was clear with his prognosis for both players after the game:
Willian is out for sure, I think Pedro is out for sure. I prefer problems when players are playing well than problems when players are playing badly.
In their absence, Ruben Loftus-Cheek could get another run-out against Arsenal this weekend.
The Gunners, meanwhile, lost 2-1 away at Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
Chelsea are currently fourth bottom of the Premier League, while Arsenal are fourth top.
