AFCON U-23 CHAMPIONSHIP: Nigeria Must Win Against Senegal

Samson Siasia has insisted that the Dream Team VI must beat Senegal who are the host of AFCON U-23 Championship. Sia beleives the team is close to picking a ticket for the Olympics and beating Senegal in the semi final clash will ensure an automatic ticket for Rio 2016.

Coach Samson Siasia has expressed his wish to avoid hosts Senegal in the semi-final of the 2015 African U23 Championship.

Nigeria U23 team take on the Junior Terrenga Lions who finished as Group A winners on Wednesday for a ticket to the competition’s final as well as an automatic ticket to the 2016 Rio Olympics men’s football event.

According to the ex-international, his lads are inching nearer to a place in Brazil and must go all out to cage the hosts at the Leopold Sedar Senghor Stadium.

“The most important was to qualify and we have achieved it,” Siasia was quoted by Caf website.

“We wish we could garner the three points but I'm happy with qualifying and getting closer to Rio de Janeiro.

“I would have preferred to play Senegal in the final but I have to do at the semis. It will be a great match because they will have the public behind them and we have to play and win.

“At the Africa Cup of Nations in 1992, I scored here [Leopold Sedar Senghor Stadium], and this is why most Senegalese remember me. I will be around my players to repeat it [on Wednesday],” he concluded.

Samson Siasia has only lost just once to an African team since his international coaching career. It was a 3-1 defeat to Burkina Faso at the 2015 All African Games in Congo Brazzaville.
