FC Mainz 05 vs VFB Stuttgart preview: Head To Head, Match Facts & Statistics

Mainz haven’t lost any of their last seven home games vs. Stuttgart (W4, D3) – the 05ers only have a current better run of such against Frankfurt (8).

The last time Mainz were beaten by Stuttgart in front of their own fans was on 17th September 2005 – over 10 years ago. Christian Gentner started that game for VfB.

Mainz have picked up 11 points from their last five league matches (same as Gladbach) – only BVB can better this (12). Mainz have claimed as many points since matchday 11 as Stuttgart have all season.

VfB Stuttgart are yet to pick up a point against any of the sides currently in the top 10 (8 matches).

VfB have never had as few points at this stage of a campaign as they do this season. In 1974/75, when Stuttgart were relegated to the second division, they also had just 11 points from 15 matches – they also had a goal difference of -17.

Stuttgart have the worst away record in the league this season (4 points), winning just one of their last seven matches on their travels (D1, L5) – 3-1 vs. 96 on MD6.

Stuttgart have lost each of their last three away matches, conceding exactly four goals on each occasion. The last time the Swabians conceded at least four goals each in three successive away matches was in November 1974.

Stuttgart have won just one of their last nine Friday matches (D3, L5) – a 4-1 win over Freiburg in November 2014. Mainz have won three of their last four matches on a Friday, with their only loss in this period a 2-0 defeat to BVB on matchday 9.

This season, Loris Karius has saved 75% of shots he has faced – only Timo Horn has a better record (78%). Przemyslaw Tyton has the lowest save percentage in the league (63%).

Jürgen Kramny played 217 times for Mainz in the first and second division (29 goals), and was also part of the Mainz side the achieved promotion to the BL in 2004. He repeated the feat as assistant coach to Jörn Andersen in 2009.
