Delta Queens goal poacher, Patience Helen Okaeme scored the opener while Rivers Angels lethal finisher, Sunday Uchechi scored a hat-trick to give her side a foothold heading into the reverse fixture in a fortnight in Tunis, Tunisia.
The crunch encounter was decided at the Abuja National Stadium.
However, the head coach of the side, Peter Dedevbo expressed disappointment with the performance of his wards though admitting that the World Cup campaign is over for the North African opponents.
“I know we can hold the Tunisians in Tunis in a fortnight for the decisive leg. Though we won somehow massive but I’m disappointed with the score line as I expected the players to completely bury the Tunisians to remove from their memories any hope of a comeback.
“But I believe the World Cup hope has ended for the Tunisians as we’ll surely beat them at their backyard.
“We created more chances than we used I’ll work on the loopholes before we head off for the second leg.
“The Tunisians were not completely a bad side but like I said previously the game is over for them,” said the Delta Queens gaffer to supersport.com.
The overall winners of the two-legged encounter will edge closer towards qualifying for the seventh edition of the biennial global football fiesta holding in Canada.
The Nigerians were semifinalists at the immediate past edition held in the Asian state of Japan.
