GLO CAF AWARDS: Stephen Keshi Prays For Nigeria To Dominate Award

Nigeria head coach, Stephen Keshi, is hoping that his country will have a good outing at the 2013 Glo-Caf awards billed to hold in Lagos on Thursday.

Keshi is a shortlist for Coach of the Year award alongside his country's Under-17 trainer, Manu Garba and Paul Put, who guided Burkina Faso to the final of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

But the Nigerian manager is hoping it will not just be a night of playing host to Africa's biggest football award.

"It's good we have found ourselves being nominated in a number of categories for the Glo-Caf awards which usually wasn't the case in the past years. I'm happy with what we have achieved in the past 18 months to two years and this is a manifest of those good work.

"But we are hoping we can go out there and win a number of those awards we've been nominated for. You don't get nominated for awards such as this every year but I'm happy to be among the nominees and I'm happy that Nigeria's name is once again on the world map of football thanks to the intelligence and hard work of everyone," said Keshi to supersport.com.

Nigeria's under-17s and the country's supporters club are already guaranteed to win the Youth National Team of the Year and Fair Play awards respectively as they are the only nominees in the two categories.

The West African nation also have nominees in contention in four categories including the prestigious African Footballer of the Year in which John Obi Mikel will vie for alongside Ivorian duo of Yaya Toure and Didier Drogba.
