David Moyes is currently getting it from all angles as his Manchester United side slump through 2014 with 3 consecutive defeats.
The talk of United’s hierarchy even losing patience with Moyes is growing legs, but some stats are now coming to the fore in defence of Moyes, putting his first semester into historical context.
And the irrefutable fact is: David Moyes has won more of his first 31 games – 18 – than any of United’s best-starter – Alex Ferguson, Ron Atkinson, Tommy Docherty, Matt Busby, and Dave Sexton.
While United obviously weren’t the behemoth back in those days that they are in the modern era, this stat does put Moyes’ start into context, and may allow everyone to give him some breathing space.
They may be champions, but it’s widely acknowledged that Moyes inherited a side sorely lacking in stardust; 18 wins from 31 ain’t so disastrous all things considered.
