Obafemi Martins Rejects Turkish Move


Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins has rejected the financial terms in a contract offered by Turkish side Genclerbirligi according to Turkish mediaturkiyegazetesi.com.tr.

The Seattle Sounders forward who is keen to join a team in Europe before the Janaury transfer window closes at the end of the month has also been linked with a move to Galatasaray and Rizespor, but none have seen the light of the day.


The former Inter Milan and Newcastle United striker who joined Seattle Sounders for a deal worth three million euros $3.9 million in January scored eight goals and provided four assist in 20 appearances.

Martins who began professional career with Internazionale in Italy’s Serie A scored 38 goals in 112 appearances across all competitions and helped Inter win the Serie A title in 2005-06, the Italian Cup in 2004-05 and 2005-06, and the Super Cup in 2005.

The former Wolfsburg attacker made first appearance for Nigeria National Team on May 29, 2004 against Ireland. Has been capped 38 times and scored 18 goals in international play. Made two appearances in the 2010 played 12 professional seasons in Europe’s top leagues.
