With rumours rife that Wayne Rooney may be tempted to leave Old Trafford next summer should United fail to qualify for the Champions League this season, Jose Mourinho was predictably probed on the matter during his Chelsea-Hull presser today.

But unlike last summer, when Mourinho quite brazenly and overtly proclaimed his interest in Rooney with cryptic messages, this time he’s keeping schtum.

With the hacks present keen for something – anything – from Mourinho’s mouth on Rooney, the Chelsea boos stood firm to his policy of ‘Mum’s the word’.

Interestingly, Mourinho cited the proximity of United’s visit to Stamford Bridge as a reason not to stoke the fires; so presumably he’ll be ready to proclaim his interest once again as soon as that game is over…
