WORLD CUP CALL: Martins & Odemwingie Scores For Seattle And Stoke Respectively

Nigeria’s Obafemi Martins recorded his name on the scorers’ sheet in Seattle Sounders 2-1 victory over Philadelphia at CenturyLink Field on Sunday morning.

A deflected cross from a free kick opened the scoring 13 minutes in, with Brad Evans deflecting the ball into his own net, giving the Union the boost of an early before the weapon of mass destruction drew level for the hosts 16 minutes into the second half.

The former Levante forward pounced on a loose ball to slot home the equaliser in the 61st minute.
Chad Marshall wrapped up the win in the 84th minute with a snapping header off Marco Pappa’s corner kick to give Seattle their fourth win in a row.

Martins who now boast of three goals from his side’s last three games was replaced by Zach Scott in the 88th minute which was greeted with a standing ovation by the home fans.

Seattle Sounders now top the Western Conference with 19 points from nine games.
Peter Odemwingie was also on target for Stoke City as they spanked Fulham 4-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Britannia Stadium.

The striker got the game’s curtain raiser in the 39th minute to give Mark Hughes’ side the lead going into the break before second half strikes from Marko Arnautovic, Oussama Assaidi and Jonathan Walters gave the hosts maximum points though the visitors got a consolation goal through Kieran Richardson.

Arnautovic was the architect as he cut the ball back for Ireland. The midfielder's shot took a deflection before hitting the crossbar and dropping down nicely for Odemwingie to slot home.

Assaidi found Odemwingie with a sublime pass and the Nigerian this time turned provider as he picked out the on-rushing Arnautovic, who beat Stockdale with a clinical right-footed finish at the back post.

Assaidi had the bit between his teeth and rounded off another rapid break after Arnautovic had squared from the right 73 minutes in.

Substitute Richardson pulled a goal back with a right-footed finish from inside the penalty area 10 minutes from time, but the damage had already been done.

And Walters completed the scoring when he slotted home a fourth Stoke goal with eight minutes remaining to add insult to injury for Magath's men.

With this result, Stoke City are now 10th on the English Premiership log with 47 points and will travel to the Hawthorns to face West Bromwich Albion in their last game of the season.
