Cristiano Ronaldo Will Perform At The World Cup Despite Injury Worries

Cristiano Ronaldo will play in the World Cup. All at the Portugal camp are in agreement that the player will take part; what worries them is at what level he will do so. The forward is carrying an injury that obliges him to rest up. He has had it for a few weeks now but his circumstances and personal ambitions have not allowed him to stop even for a minute.

The Portugal team doctors are worried about the effect the huge quota of matches the player is to be subject to. Ronaldo already put his patellar ligament under a lot of strain in the final stretch of last season, and the fear is that the World Cup matches will be too much, resulting in a possible complete breakage.

Many thought that he had already reached his limits before the Lisbon final, but they were proved wrong.
Saturday's CAT scan's results showed a slight and insufficient improvement. The patellar ligament is very tough and is not broken so easily.

It usually only happens to players that have repeatedly played with painkillers, Ronaldo Nazario, for example. The break gives no early warning, and when it goes, it goes - micro-fractures hardly ever occur. It's all or nothing.

That said, sources at the Portugal camp when talking to MARCA do not completely rule out a slight breakage: "It would be very difficult to diagnose. He has a muscular injury that is recovering well, that needs treatment and a lot of rest - something that the player hasn't been able to do."
