Cesc Fàbregas has decided to leave Barcelona and José Mourinho's Chelsea seems to be his next stop. With Frank Lampard embarking on an adventure in New York, there is a difficult gap to fill and the man from Arenys is the chosen one.
The player may have even had a medical at Stamford Bridge last week according to unconfirmed reports.
Fàbregas was in London and various sources have revealed that Chelsea had the player flown over to the British capital on a private jet for a fleeting visit.
The deal is far from sealed, however, as Manchester City have made their way back into the running for the midfielder, having seemingly dropped their interest at one stage.
City and Chelsea are the two main sides in contention to sign Cesc. His agent, Darren Dein, was negotiating with several Premiership clubs over the weekend, all too aware of the Spaniard's excellent reputation in England following an eight-year stint at Arsenal.
Barcelona will cash in on Fàbregas this summer. Andoni Zubizarreta will finally make a player sale for a considerable sum of money which is not vastly lower than the fee paid to bring him to the club. All departures in the last five years, with the exception of Yaya Toure, have been financially disastrous for the 'Azulgranas', who have consistently paid over the odds for players and sold on the cheap.
