DANI ALVES: Alan Shearer's Comment About Fred Is Idiotic

Dani Alves has said that Spain's elimination in the group stage is a "lesson" for other teams and for people who "think they know about football".

"It's a shame. I feel really sorry for my teammates who play for Spain. It's a lesson for everyone. A lesson that this is a really tough competition, although in theory it might seem easy," said Dani Alves in a press conference.

The Barcelona player insisted that Spain's defeat "is a demonstration" of how difficult the World Cup is and warned that you can "get knocked out for the slightest lapse".

Brazil play Cameroon on Monday in Brasilia to secure their place in the next round, a game which they need to at least draw in order to ensure their qualification.

Alves raised the tone of his reproaches when he referred to the recent criticisms of Fred by the former England international Alan Shearer in an interview on the 'UOL' website, when he said the striker made absolutely no contribution to the team, meaning that Brazil are "playing with ten men".

"Shearer's comment is idiotic; one of the most idiotic things you could possibly hear, and from someone who played football. It's a shame. It's a lack of respect when someone degrades a fellow colleague like that. It's a shame to hear that kind of comment from a former player," said Alves.
