West Ham In Transfer Move For Juventus' Angelo Ogbonna

West Ham have opened talks with Juventus over the signing of defender Angelo Ogbonna, Goal understands. The Hammers are keen to acquire a central defender this summer, with new manager Slaven Bilic identifying the position as key to his recruitment plans.

Ogbonna has subsequently been earmarked as a potential signing as the club continue their spending spree, having already signed Pedro Obiang and Dimitri Payet.

Sources have confirmed that the Hammers have entered into talks with Juve over the signing of Ogbonna and it is understood that the two sides are edging closer to an agreement, though reports that the Italy international has already said his goodbyes to his team-mates have been described as “premature”.

Though no firm offer has been made to Juventus, West Ham are believed to value Ogbonna at around £8.5 million, and the club have subsequently edged ahead of Everton in the race to sign the 27-year-old.

The Hammers have also been linked with moves for fellow defenders Aymen Abdennour and Aleksandar Dragovic – of Monaco and FC Basel respectively – but West Ham are focusing on the potential acquisition of Ogbonna instead, given the high asking prices attached to the duo.
