Brazil striker Fred has insisted that fans are right to pin their hopes of a World Cup win on star man Neymar, saying the Barcelona forward "makes the difference".
Neymar has been heralded by Selecao supporters as the man to help their nation win a sixth title world title on home soil in the coming weeks.
And after the 22-year-old scored two goals, including a penalty, in his team’s opening 3-1 victory against Croatia, Fred has backed Neymar to continue his positive performances when Brazil take on Cameroon on June 23.
"Everyone knows that in our team Neymar is the player who makes the difference,” the 30-year-old Fluminense attacker told L’Equipe.
“Our opponents are forced to impose particular marking [systems on Neymar]. If it is an off-day [for him], our group has the capacity to find other solutions to be effective.
“But often we try to bring the game to Neymar because he is our star.”
Luiz Felipe Scolari’s men go into their final group match against the already-eliminated Cameroon knowing that if they lose in Brasilia and Croatia and Mexico draw, they will be out of the tournament.
